Non-Invasive Acupoint TherapyNon-invasive acupoint therapy is based on the premise and philosophical constructs of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The practice of acupoint therapy is based on theories of energy flow in the body and can be described as “external treatment of internal disorders”. Thousands of years ago, the Chinese developed charts to diagram meridians of energy transmission to and from vital organs of the body. During many years of experimenting, the Chinese discovered that stimulating certain points on these meridians (acupoints) could relieve pain and improve the function of other body areas. There are over a thousand acupoints on our bodies. It is also possible to treat the entire body by stimulating acupoints on the ears (auriculotherapy), hands, and feet. There are over twenty ways to stimulate acupoints. We only use non-invasive methods of stimulation; of which sub-threshold microcurrent is the most common.
The electric stimulation of acupoints balances the meridian just as a needle, finger, ice, heat, etc. does. The actual physical pathway that the body uses is the nervous system. The introduction of a sub-threshold electrical impulse stimulates the nervous system just as adjusting the spine stimulates the nervous system. It dilates nerve endings and blood vessels, increasing the flow of oxygen and nutrients through your bloodstream. This also helps to move toxins and waste through the system. This type of stimulation also causes the body to release endorphins – the body's natural pain reliever. As mentioned above, the entire body can be treated via the ears. The ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Chinese all used auriculotherapy. The secret to the ear's extremely sensitive relationship to the body and organs may have something to do with the fact that the external ear actually begins modest development within the first 9 days of human fetal development – right after the microscopic brain and spinal cord begin to form. The ear is the only structure whose tissue develops from the three embryonic germ layers of the body: ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. The ear is directly innervated by at least three spinal nerves, and several cranial nerves. The ear acts as a transmitter-receiver, which is in direct contact with the central nervous system. Specific spinal adjustments are the most direct and effective way to normalize spinal dysfunction and to restore proper nerve function. Non-invasive acupoint therapy is a wonderful adjunctive procedure to the adjustment. It encourages healing, helps to decrease pain, and helps to restore normal function to the body area being treated. |
